‘Postmasters’ Secrets’ Exhibition at the Minories

A bit late in posting this update, but ready to start a new project so thought I’d better log the last one if only as a reminder to myself as to what I did!

October 2014 saw the opening of the Postmasters group’s first joint exhibition at the Minories Gallery in Colchester. The exhibition was entitled ‘secrets’ and incorporated pieces being exhibited in cafes and restaurants around the town. Below are a few photos that I’ve managed to scavenge from Facebook pages.

    

Cake and Comment

Last day of the residency today so I baked some cakes! The finished art piece will hopefully take the form of a table as did Bosch’s. Tables need plates and plates need cakes! Also I invited in friends, colleagues and family to see work in progress and gauge their response, the lure of cake normally works and went down well. The younger generation seemed to be able to decode the plates’ messages with a bit of support.

I’ve found the week highly productive .

Proof print using water based ink, the finish isn’t as good as using the oil based ink but I needed it be quick drying.

Invidia – Envy

Bosh’s depiction of Invidia illustrates the desire to have what another has, the envy of another’s wealth or position. A young man seeks the attentions of a woman who is betrothed to another. An envious couple look on at the wealth of a passerby and someone in the background possibly makes off with something that wasn’t theirs! Even the dogs are said to be ignoring the bones that lay in front of the them for the more tempting out of reach bone held by the man.

Desire is used as a modern day advertising ploy, computers, new technology, perfume etc use it in naming goods and imagery as a selling device. It has also been argued that capitalism and consumerism fanned the flames that ignited  the 2011 riots.
